Kaiser Permanente of Washington is a total health organization comprising Kaiser Foundation Health Plan of Washington, and the Washington Permanente Medical Group, P.C., formerly Group Health Physicians, an independent medical group that features more than 1,000 physicians.


Lead, develop, manage and implement the organization's patient safety program in collaboration with Kaiser Permanente leadership. Partners with Kaiser Permanente Practice leaders and the Kaiser Permanente Medical Director for Patient Safety to effectively facilitate the execution of Kaiser Permanente's Patient Safety and Culture of Reliability Work plan. This position assures that the patient safety program is designed to assure a culture of reliability that results in a reduction of serious safety events and harm with and improvement in quality of patient care. This position works with all leadership to make Kaiser Permanente a national leader in patient safety. Works with operations and medical staff leadership to encourage and facilitate the reliability culture through leader and staff training, coaching and mentoring for integration of reliability tools within standard work across the Delivery System. Provides consultation and input to management to assure that patient safety requirements meet the standards established by NCQA, DOH and other regulatory agencies and works with key stakeholders to assure that medical errors are addressed and mitigated with system wide improvements.


Minimum Education Requirements:

Master's degree in clinically related healthcare field; such as Nursing, Pharmacy, MPH, or similar.

Preferred Education:

BSN with a Master's degree


Minimum Knowledge/Skills Requirements:

Basic or limited Knowledge of lean principles and/or other quality improvement methodology.

Preferred Knowledge/Skills:

Thorough knowledge of quality management including patient safety standards. Knowledge of patient safety principles including high reliability, error/harm prevention. Ability to conduct root cause analysis and other problem solving techniques. Excellent writing and analytic skills. Strong project management and organizational skills. Strong interpersonal skills with demonstrated ability to interface with all levels of staff and leaders.


Minimum Experience Requirements:

5 years of health care experience with 2-3 years in a management level position.

Preferred Experience:

4 years of experience in developing and leading large scale programs. Previous quality improvement experience with emphasis on patient safety in ambulatory care.
5 years of program development and project management experience. Risk management experience in a health care setting. Knowledge of JCAHO, NCQA standards and those of other regulatory agencies.
