Lake County is seeking an enthusiastic, community oriented physician to serve as the Deputy Health Officer for the County of Lake.

Qualifications Guidelines

  1. Graduation from a medical college in good standing and repute per California Health and Safety Code Section 451.
  2. Possession of a valid unrestricted Physician’s and Surgeon’s license issued by the California Medical Board -OR- Possession of a valid unrestricted Doctor of Osteopathy licensed by Osteopathic Medical Board of California. (Applicants eligible for a license to practice medicine and surgery in the state of California but not currently licensed may be considered but must have the license before date of hire.)
  3. Highly desirable, but not required –
    • Previous experience in a public health agency.
    • Previous experience as a licensed physician.
    • a graduate degree in public health
    • certification or eligibility for certification in any of the following medical specialties: preventive medicine/public health; family practice; pediatrics; obstetrics/gynecology or internal medicine.

In addition, a qualified applicant must possess, or have the ability to obtain, an appropriate valid California Driver’s License and must be eligible for State Skilled Professionals Medical Personnel (SPMP) classifications as defined by 42 CFR Part 432

The monthly salary range for the Deputy Health Officer is $9,339- $11,352 but is currently under review.

A highly qualified applicant may be appointed above the entry step in this range.


  • The County participates in CalPERS retirement, (2% @ 55 formula - Classic, 2% @ 62 formula - New);
  • The County currently pays a $800 monthly contribution toward the employee’s choice of medical, dental, vision, and life benefits;
  • Three weeks of paid vacation per year for the first through fifth year of employment; increasing with service.
  • 40 hours paid administrative leave per year;
  • 13 paid holidays per year;
  • 12 days of paid sick leave per year which are accrued and not capped;
  • Various pretax options such as dependent care, unreimbursed medical, supplemental life insurance;
  • Department paid cell phone or cell phone stipend are available
  • Deferred compensation plans and credit union membership are available;
  • Additional benefits with qualification criteria include: moving allowances, prior government service toward vacation accrual, purchase of vacation and sick time on appointment, tuition reimbursement.

The Community
