Director - Clinical Resources (Job Opening 434170) - SCOPE OF POSITION
The Director of Clinical Resources is responsible directing all patient care services float staff across at the OSUWMC and is responsible for supervising, leading, guiding, and providing strategic direction for all areas of responsibility, including Managers of the respective float staff, RN's, PCA's, UCA's and shared sitter resources. In addition, this role manages transition units that assist with patient flow and overall capacity issues, including the extended admission unit (EAU). The director will also manage bereavement services for the health system.


The Director of Clinical Resources will assist the Administrator of Patient Flow Management in leading and directing the overall flow of patients through the Medical Center. This role will direct the Clinical Resources Department with a primary focus on aligning float staff with patient demand to enhance throughput throughout the Medical Center. This will be accomplished by having the right staff, in the right place, at the right time utilizing the most fiscally responsible method. The Director is responsible for the implementation of an effective and ongoing program that monitors and evaluates the demand of nursing resources within the organization that will assist in improving the quality and appropriateness of resource allocation. In addition, this role will assist in overseeing units that assist with patient throughput and capacity issues.

This position has the responsibility of overseeing the standards of nursing practices and services of the department while supporting and promoting the mission, vision and values of the Medical Center. The Director will collaborate with the business unit CNO's , Administration and the Division of Nursing on decision making and the development of process improvement structures around staffing. It is of utmost importance that the Clinical Resources Director provides leadership and mentoring to all departmental staff ensuring that every employee demonstrates behaviors that are caring, competent and ethical towards patients, visitors, and other Medical Center colleagues. In addition, the Director will receive other delegated executive duties as deemed necessary by the Administrator of the department.

The Director of Clinical Resources will ensure that an effective nursing staffing system is in place that is consistently utilized at the unit level as well as hospital-wide, so that resources are appropriately distributed to meet deficits and increases in demand. The role is responsible for predicting service demand in relation to open positions and critical staffing needs throughout the Nursing Division. Tools to used to support the management of Clinical Resources include: census trends through ClairVia, admission trends, ADT ratios, LOS, schedule holes report, float staff utilization report, premium pay, HPPD, productive and non-productive hours trends, patient satisfaction survey results, employee satisfaction survey results and staffing effectiveness analysis. Staffing plans will include consideration of vacant positions, perspective applicant pools, turnover data and scope of nursing practice permitted by state law and hospital policies.

Education and Experience

Master's Degree in Nursing or a Master's Degree in a related field with a Bachelor's Degree in Nursing from a CCNE (Commission on Collegiate Nursing Education) or ACEN (Accreditation Commission for Education in Nursing) accredited nursing program required; current license as a registered nurse from the State of Ohio Board of Nursing required. Seven years of nursing experience, plus an additional five to seven years management or leadership experience required. Active certification in relevant area desired. Experience with collective bargaining and labor relations preferred.
