ABOUT US


As part of Alameda County Health, the Behavioral Health Department supports people with Medi-Cal and without insurance living with serious mental illness and substance use conditions along their path toward wellness, recovery, and resiliency. We provide services through a network of contracted mental health and substance use providers and administer the State’s resources and training for behavioral health providers, case managers, and other healthcare professionals. We advocate for our patients and families and create space for personal engagement in their care.


 


We are outpatient specialists for mental health services for older adults and youth, substance use providers and treatment program specialists, advocates for quality improvement and patients’ rights, and psychiatric and integrated health care providers.

The POSITION


Under direction, to plan, organize, and direct a large group of closely related services or programs in the Behavioral Health Department; to coordinate services with other County health agencies; to provide professional consultation; and to do related work as required.

The Behavioral Health Department's Chief Medical Officer (Physician V) is a member of the senior executive team and oversees all system leaders who oversee crisis and acute, pharmacy, nursing, psychiatry, and integrated care services on behalf of the Department. The incumbent serves as a principal liaison to health care and/or behavioral healthcare organizations providing support to the safety net system. Their services or programs may also be recognized by the medical community as being the most essential to the operation of a public health or mental health program. They report directly to the ACBHD Department Director.

THE VACANCY


The current vacancy is for a position with psychiatric specialty which requires successful completion of a four-year residency in psychiatry. However, the eligible list resulting from this recruitment will be used to fill future vacancies with or without specialty designations.


 


THE IDEAL CANDIDATE


In addition to the minimum qualifications and knowledge and skills listed below, ideal candidates for the current vacancy will have experience overseeing psychiatric services in a county setting, behavioral health organization, acute psychiatric facility, or integrated medical/behavioral health facility. They will be well-versed in the WIC, LPS, and other legislative matters related to county operations, as well as the provision and oversight of outpatient pharmacy, nursing, and general behavioral health (mental health and substance use) treatment requirements.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

EXPERIENCE:
The equivalent of four years of post-residence experience which must have included at least two years of experience with teaching, supervisory, and administrative responsibility.

AND



LICENSE:
Possession of a valid license to practice medicine in the State of California.
